National Consultation Meeting on Beijing +15
September 2009
SLWNGOF organized a National Consultation meeting on Beijing +15 at CENWOR on 24th September 2009. This was in preparation for the 2010 review of progress towards the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and sharing the outcomes of the provisional level consultations, and to identify the successes and strategies to address challenges that remain in the implementation of the BPFA in Sri Lanka.

A total of 55 participants were present from all over the country representing a diverse range of women’s organizations as well as the Government sector. The program was very informative with many of the participants sharing their views and experiences.

2007
The SLWNGOF co-hosted the Women’s Consultation for the 8th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) with the Women and Media Collective and the Community Forum for the 8th ICAAP, bringing together women from across the country.

The SLWNGOF submitted a letter of protest on the banning of women with children under five years of age from reporting overseas for employment.

2006
The SLWNGOF was the key women’s organization which, through a consultative process nationally sent in its recommendations for the proposed reforms of the UN in relation to the Gender Equality Architecture.

2005
National Consultation on the outcomes of the meetings held ten years after the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing + 10 meetings).

2004-2005
National Consultation with SLWNGOF national networks on the implementation of the BPFA and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The consultation report was shared at the South Asia Consultation on Beijing + 10 in Kathmandu, Nepal where further key areas of concern for South Asia were identified, and then presented to Asia Pacific Women’s Watch. These were in turn included in the final report prepared for the United Nations Beijing + 10 consultation in New York in 2005.

2003
The SLWNGOF was part of the lobby by women’s organizations to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reform in 2003 in Sri Lanka, which called for special temporary measures to ensure women’s participation and representation in political and decision making in Sri Lanka.

2000
The SLWNGOF was nominated for an award for social advertising from the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM). The advertisement on which the nomination was received was on domestic violence, and was part of a broader SLWNGOF national media campaign.

1996 - 2001
SLWNGOF was actively involved in information dissemination, promoting and implementing the BPFA in Sri Lanka and in South Asia, in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). It also consulted with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to assess the post Beijing Conference processes.
